How I Spent my 30 Hours in Manila

I was just in Manila, and as always, I am very happy to see my whole family. I arrived late and mommy was having dialysis so I bravely took a cab and went straight to National Kidney. Man, I have become a paranoid so bad. Whenever the cab driver looks at the rearview mirror, and whenever he reaches for something, my heart felt like it was gonna jump off my throat, my heart was pounding so loud, I was scared the cab driver would hear it. I saw one of my fb friend's post that she was attacked in a cab and it just made me worse. I used to be ok taking cabs, now I feel like I wanna take the bus or the train instead. Being alone with a stranger in a confined space freaks me out. Being around hundreds of strangers is quite comforting and feels normal. I know Im weird. Its in the nature of my job I think. I got to National Kidney just fine, =) Thank God.

Mommy was hooked to the machine and Vaughn was under her dialysis bed =) and Vaughn quickly hugged me, I missed the little guy.

We went for dinner at the Original Pares in Retiro, and I bought mommy miki-bihon =) I played tug of war with Vaughn with my mom's shawl and then it was time to go home. Mommy always looked tired after dialysis, which always makes me sad =(

Went home to Fairview and I fell asleep in mommys bed while waiting for Regine to get ready. My little sister's working! Im definitely old!

And then we went back to the hotel, daddy had to go back to fairview coz he snores too loud, I always feel bad when he leaves and I always cant sleep until I receive his sms that he's home.

Mommy snores too but it can be blocked by earplugs and so I sleep hearing the faint sound of my mom's snore and my heartbeat. And then she coughs , and I say a little prayer, dear Lord, please take my mom's cough away... please.

She falls asleep after taking meds for that damn cough. And then morning comes, I get awoken by my mom's voice, it's the most wonderful feeling =) We get ready for lunch, it was almost 11! arrgh I hate waking up late in Manila! Time is gold. Couldnt go to Bulacan coz I was a sleepy head, next week then! Mom injects insulin and we were off to the mall =)

Kenny Rogers looked appetizing, but I was disappointed, it was not as good as I remember. But mommy, seemed to be enjoying it, and so I watch as she eats her meal. I got affected and sad when I found out that one of my friend's dad no longer eats solid food, he has cancer, and so when I saw mommy eating really well, I just felt so happy, even if she was enjoying the chicken skin which she shouldnt be!  oh well.

We went to the supermarket and I buy my usual stuff and I buy everything that mommy wants. It's a good feeling to be able to buy even the cheapest and simplest stuff for her. And then Vaughn comes and manages to get into the cart in seconds. He always complains, lola ang bagal mo naman magtulak eh! We go through every aisle and gets the cart full in no time. Theres this Koko Crunch mascot and Vaughn would always want to take a photo there and I dint have a cam so, this time, he didnt get a shot.

We went back to the hotel and Vaughn would insist on pressing which floor. =) Mommy always takes a nap after a meal. It was raining, I promised Vaughn we would swim and so he was always on the lookout if the rain had stopped. And when it did, he was in his swimming trunks in literally 3 seconds =) hahaha. I came out in my bathing suit and Vaughn, would always say Im sexy, and I would always smile, thinking lagi ako nauuto ng batang toh. I see my cellulites and ignore it. To the pool we go.

I look stupid doing laps in the kiddie pool but Vaughn is still a little bit scared of the water, and he loves to splash water over me when Im floating on my back. His giggles make my day. He talks a lot just like me, he never stops, well just like me. I taught him how to do bubbles under water. And then would pretend to be swimming while slowwalking in the water. he is so funny.

Then his mom arrives with floaters =) =) =) which changed everything coz now we were swimming in the adult pool =) I could swim and Vaughn was not scared of the water anymore! because he was floating =)

Here's a video of Vaughn.

We had to pretend we were gonna leave Vaughn behind, coz he did not want to leave the pool. And so we went back to the room and I took a nap which lasted for an hour and a half. We had dinner, i had jollibee burger steak and a kfc spicy thigh with GRRRAVVVY!!! =) so yummy.  It was quarter to 8 and the wake up call was at 55 past 8. I rushed to Davids Salon with Vaughn to have a mani and pedi and hair color too! Four people were working on my head, my hands and my head all at once. I got them stressed while Vaughn almost wiped all their glass windows clean with his breath and his hands and arms. eew. I was asking Vaughn to buy me something from the Japanese shop right infront of the salon, but he refused coz he said, he might get kidnapped, what crap! I said I could see you from here, and he looks at me and said, yeah,  but you couldn't move, so what will you do if somebody kidnaps me? hmmm the kid had a point. lol =)

At exactly 10 past 9, I moved in fast forward motion, I ran to the hotel, Vaughn running behind me. I showered, got into my uniform, make up and the works, the red lipstick to finish it off  =) Kissed my loved ones goodbye, hugged mommy tightly and off I went to the bus to Ninoy Aquino International.

The flight back is another story to tell, one I am not happy to write about.

So this was how I spent the 30 hours layover in Manila, May 1st. Whew. Got back to Dubai, had a fight with the cab driver, a sign that I was back to reality.

  1. Hi ate! I love your blog. It shows the perks and the hardship of being a flight attendant.. It is also my dream to be a flight attendant for Emirates.. Is it hard to pass the recruitment process? :)
